Planting your winter vegie seedlings in May ensures that you’ll get a nice crop of home-grown broccoli, broccolini, cabbage, cauliflowers and Asian greens – brassicas are beautiful vegies, and there’s something extra special about those you’ve grown yourself. But beware if you’re new to winter vegie gardening, as there’s one thing you absolutely need to know – insect netting is the best friend you can have! If you group your leafy greens together and net them from the very beginning, then you’ll avoid having to spray for cabbage white butterfly and cabbage moth, saving yourself a lot of work down the track.
